Glynn Purnell: The 'Yummy Brummie' of British Cuisine
Glynn is a celebrated British chef renowned for his culinary expertise and engaging television presence. His restaurants have won a raft of awards and accolades, with Purnell's earning a Michelin Star every year since 2009, being listed as one of the top 100 restaurants in the country in the Harden's Restaurant Guide 2016 and named best UK restaurant 2012 by BMW Square Meal. In the What's On Readers Awards, Glynn has won best chef in the Midlands for the past three years, with Purnell's being named the best Birmingham restaurant in the same period.
Glynn started cooking professionally aged 14 and after securing a work experience placement in a hotel kitchen, he worked at the Metropole Hotel at the NEC. A six-year stint followed, gaining experience in every department from banqueting to the A La Carte Terrace Restaurant, where he discovered his talent and passion for fine dining. It wasn't long before he began winning awards including the prestigious SalonCulinaire
He has become a household name through his appearances on the Great British Menu, where he won twice and later served as a mentor. Glynn is also a regular host on "Saturday Kitchen" and has co-presented "My Kitchen Rules UK" alongside Rachel Allen.
Glynn's culinary journey began at 14, with a work experience placement in a hotel kitchen. His training with top chefs like Gordon Ramsay, Gary Rhodes, and Claude Bosi, as well as his experience working with Michelin-starred chefs in Europe, further refined his craft.
In 2007, Glynn opened Purnell's Restaurant in Birmingham, which was awarded a Michelin star in 2009. He also owns Purnell's Bistro & Ginger's Bar, opened in 2012. His restaurants have consistently received top accolades, including listings in Harden's Restaurant Guide and BMW Square Meal awards.
A proud advocate for his West Midlands roots, Glynn has been recognized as the best chef in the Midlands for the past three years in the What's On Readers Awards. Beyond the kitchen, he has served as a celebrity judge at The Pride of Birmingham Awards, showcasing his commitment to his community.
Glynn has become a household name after taking part in the Great British Menu, winning twice and then later appearing as a mentor. He's a regular host of Saturday Kitchen as well as presenting a series ofMy Kitchen Rules UK cookery competition alongside Rachel Allen on Channel 4.
